The Naked Party, adapted from Jason Schlafstein’s hit play from Capital Fringe Festival ‘08, is set to begin filming in the DC area in Spring 2010. Produced by Logan Circle Films and directed by Stephen Mack, The Naked Party is a quirky comedy with an intellectual and artistic bentwhich will be shot on 16mm B&W film. As the name suggests, the premise of the film is a “naked party” thrown by two UMD students in their group house just before Spring Semester starts and the revelations and chaos that ensue. This film explores the idea of nudity as it relates to vulnerability and what happens when people’s costumes and armors are taken away from them.
We are currently casting principal and supporting roles. All roles arecollege-aged and require nudity on screen. Nudity is NOT required in auditions but may be at certain points during rehearsal. All faces and body types welcome. Principal cast and certain supporting players will be involved in publicity shoots and a teaser trailer shortly after casting which will require PG-rated (i.e. strategically censored) nudity.
Auditions will be held Sunday November 1st, location to be determined. More audition dates may be scheduled later in the month, followed by callback dates in late November and early December. There will be extensive rehearsals, particularly for principal cast, beginning immediately after casting, as the script depends on complex and carefully choreographed conversations and happenings around the house. Actors should be comfortable going off-script occasionally, and they will also be required to mimic nude figures from famous works of art in certain scenes and promotional materials.
Below is a list of principal characters. There are many other roles not listed, and others may be created, so anyone of the appropriate age and interest may audition. Non-actors will be considered as well. All roles are paid for shooting days, with a small stipend for rehearsal periods. SAG actors are welcome (ultra-low-budget agreement). Send an email to info@logancirclefilms.com stating your interest with a headshot and resume. Non-actors can send a recent photo and an explanation of why you’re interested. You may specify a role you’re interested in, but it is not necessary as all those auditioning will be considered for any appropriate role. You will receive a selection of scenes beforehand from which you may be asked to play a role in the audition. Note: we are not casting any roles that don’t require on-screen nudity.
ALEX: Male, Senior. Laid-back, intellectual. Comes up with the idea for a party. Very concerned about the party’s success and pushed to the limit by the chaos that ensues. Has feelings for Erin but tension between them has made it difficult for them to get together.
BUDMAN: Male, Alex’s housemate. Graduated a semester early. Just started working at his father’s bank. Insecure, somewhat manic. Desperately wants to hook up tonight but scatterbrained as to where to focus his efforts. Prone to violent moodswings.
ERIN: Female, Junior, Irish Catholic heritage. Artistic, aspiring author. Regrets the mistake of a past boyfriend and is cautious about a relationship with Alex. Previous troubles with anorexia. Attends the party for self-discovery and as a declaration of her new self.
VANESSA: Female, Sophomore. Addicted to pop culture, fashion. Is at the party to hook up, revenge on her boyfriend back home for cheating on her.
TROY: Male, Senior. Loud, cocky, and crude. Dominates any room he’s in. He’s also Erin’s ex-boyfriend, and wants her back though he won’t admit it.
JORDAN: Female, Senior. Troy’s best friend, one of the guys. Has a girlfriend in LA she’s planning on joining after she graduates, but financial difficulties after her father lost his job have complicated things, and amidst the stress she fails to tell her girlfriend she’ll be at the naked party.
JULIE: Female, Junior. Free spirit. Has been to a naked party before, thinks nothing of it. Knows she will leave her boyfriend Sean soon and is not particularly bothered by his discomfort.
SEAN: Male, Junior. Straight-edge hipster. Very uncomfortable about the party, both because of the nudity and because he’s not comfortable around these people. Is bothered by his girlfriend Julie’s experience and free-spirited ways, but is almost beyond caring at this point. Much more bothered when his younger sister shows up at the party.
SIMON and PETER: Philosophy majors, spend the entire film arguing the merits of the party or lack thereof. Simon is very analytical but somewhat unsure of his conclusions. Peter spends less time thinking and more time browbeating Simon.
GUITAR GUY: Male, Senior. Entertains the crowd with his music. Must be an actual guitar player, preferably a singer too. Original music a huge plus!
