MTWorks (www.mtworks.org) will be presenting two industry readings of Barrier Island, a new play by David Stallings, directed by Cristina Alicea Monday, October 19 at 2 pm and Monday, November 9 at 7:00 pm. The play is slated to be produced in the Spring of 2010 and is the first part of the Galveston trilogy cycle.
Auditions will be held on Monday, September 14th from 6:00-9:00 pm by appointment only.
The reading will be produced under the AEA 29 hr. staged-reading guidelines.
Synopsis: As a fearless and stubborn community rests their lives against the historic wall that protects Galveston Island from natural disasters, a younger generation challenges the emotional disasters no wall can protect.
BREAKDOWN:
DANIEL: eleven, withdrawn, yet perceptive. An Elijah Wood type.
STEPH: fifteen, tough and plain. A Dakota Fanning type.
