Seeking African-American Actors for Stage Readings!
Posted by Calls & Castings in NYC Castings on March 29th, 2010
Seeking two young black actors to participate in a series of readings for a play I’m developing and will eventually produce. This first reading is this Tuesday evening between 7:30 – 8:30 PM. Other Tuesday evening readings to be held on an irregular schedule.
The two characters are enslaved in 1850s Missouri and part of a love triangle with the master’s white nephew being the third.
~ Celia – title character, black female, early 20s, unusually well educated for a slave, a devout Christian.
Not required from the actor, but nice to have: singing experience, especially with Romantic Period lieder
~ Douglass – black male, early 20s, also well-educated, bought by the master for the purpose of marrying him to Celia, skeptical of religion due to its use in justifying slavery
Both actors must have excellent diction – some Shakespearean experience is a plus.
There is no pay for reading participation but – the eventual production will be a paying gig.
Send headshots/resume/website links to Nancy – via email.
