Theater Auditions Salem

The Salem Theatre Company announces open auditions for the final Main Stage play of Season Eight. Tina Howe’s highly acclaimed, moving comedy Painting Churches will be produced at the STC Theater May 5 – 28, Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 3:00pm. The production will be directed by Janet Neely.
Auditions will be held on Tuesday, March 1 and Wednesday, March 2, from 7:00 p.m. -9:00 p.m. at the STC Theater, 90 Lafayette Street in downtown Salem. Actors are asked to prepare a one-minute comic monologue and may be asked to read from the script. Call back dates are still to be determined.
To register your audition, please e-mail info@salemtheatre.com and state your preferred audition group time: Group One: Tuesday, March 1 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Group Two: Tuesday, March 1 from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Group Three: Wednesday, March 2 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Group Four: Wednesday, March 2, 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Rehearsals will begin at the end of March and be held three evenings each week, approximately 7:00 p.m.-9:30 p.m., and on Saturday or Sunday afternoons.
In Painting Churches, an elderly couple in Boston – Fanny and Gardner Church – are packing and preparing to move to a beach home on Cape Cod. Their daughter, Margaret, has arrived from New York to help them pack. An artist, Margaret also decides to take the opportunity to paint her parents’ portrait. Over the course of several days, she witnesses her role in the parent-child relationship evolve and change.
Roles to be filled include Fanny Church (female, 50-60s) – a Bostonian from a fine old family – her husband Gardner Church (male, 60s-70s) – an eminent New England poet from a finer family – and their daughter, Margaret Church (female, 20s-30s) – a painter and art professor. The Salem Theatre Company is a non-union, semi-professional company.

A short drama about a couples troubled marriage and the choice they make that lead to disaster.
The Casting Call:
1. 2 male and 1 female.
2. Most be available over weekends.
3. Can work within a week to two week period.

Casting Tonight and This week for “Hair” in Salem

Salem Theatre Company will hold auditions for HAIR on Tuesday, February 16 and Thursday February 18 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the company’s theatre at 90 Lafayette Street in Salem.
The production, with book and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni and music by Galt MacDermot will be directed by Catherine M. Bertrand of Salem with musical direction by Karen Gahagan of Marblehead. Interested theatre artists are asked to sign up for auditions by www.salemtheatre.com and following the HAIR Audition link on the homepage. Audition call-backs will be held on February 20 from Noon to 4PM at a location to be announced.
The creative team of STC’s HAIR is looking for a culturally diverse group of people to breathe life into this powerful production. They are searching not just for actors, singers and dancers but for theatre artists interested in forming a tribe of fun loving, passionate rebels who have an undying need to sing, dance and live life to its fullest. Auditioning actors are asked to prepare 32 bars of a song similar in style to HAIR. Popular rock music from the sixties is encouraged.
Please also prepare 16 bars of a ballad from standard musical theatre repertoire. Bring standard sheet music marked accordingly. An accompanist will be provided; however, if you are comfortable accompanying yourself (guitar, keyboard, etc.) we encourage you to demonstrate these skills. The directors are also looking for an actor who can play the trumpet. Monologues are not necessary. Performances will take place at the MLT Firehouse Theatre, 12 School Street in Marblehead, from June 2 through June 12.
